Moyer Farm Project
In Lehigh County, Ducks Unlimited and its partners designed and implemented a "total restoration package" for the Moyer farm. Each partner provided a key component of the total restoration. By providing funds for fencing and establishing riparian buffers under the Habitat Stewardship Program, DU excluded cattle from 2,700 feet of the Little Lehigh Creek, which is a Class "A" Wild Trout Stream. The FWS restored 30 acres of warm season grass that will serve as excellent dense nesting cover for grassland species. The Delaware River Keepers assisted with the buffer planting and design of the stream restoration. The Wildlands Conservancy implemented the stream work, enabling the stream channel to return to its normal width. The Moyer Farm is now a showcase, working farm that practices state of the art conservation, with benefits to waterfowl, fish and many other species of wildlife. |
